We recently had the pleasure of catching up with Flying Solo. The website dedicated to the micro business community approached us for a feature on their website and of course, we said yes.
Our team members Dave and Natasha were open to all types of questions about how we operate and what the average day at OnePoint is like – read the full interview below!
You’ve got a free half hour during your work day. What do you do?
Play a round of quoits; so far Natasha is winning on this front. Well that is what she thinks.
What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt this year?
If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck; then it’s probably a duck.
What’s your number one stress relief tactic (keep it clean!)?
Reminding ourselves that we’re not alone and there is always someone in the same boat as us. Never stress the little things.
What’s your favourite film and album?
Dave: Movie – Ace Ventura Pet Detective (ALLLLL righty then…). Album: Sophie Ellis-Bextor “Read My Lips”
Natasha: Movie – Jack & Sarah. Album: Simply Red “Stars” (Are you seeing a theme here? Natasha loves Simply Red so much that when they toured last to Australia she couldn’t go see them because she didn’t want to take the chance of being disappointed… very sad!)
What’s the one resource you’d never be without?
Sorry couldn’t only pick one, so it would have to be the Internet, copious amounts of coffee and water.
What’s the most obscure business request you’ve ever had?
When Natasha owned a hairdressing salon she once had a customer ask her to close the salon and to have one of the hairdressers cut his hair while the hairdresser was topless. Needless to say she couldn’t find an available appointment for him.
What’s the most enjoyable element of your work? And the least enjoyable?
Most enjoyable is creating new things. It’s always rewarding seeing a concept come to life and make a difference to a client’s business. Least enjoyable is having to clean out the milk jug that’s sat in the fridge for a month…. EWWWW.
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
“A business without marketing is like winking at a girl in the dark, you know you’re doing it but no one else does” – Patsy Stone
What website do you visit every day?
LinkedIn, BuzzFeed, Flying Solo (of course), Gizmodo, Tutsplus and Google, Google, Google…. What would life be like without Google??
What talent do you most wish you possessed?
Natasha has always wanted to be a singer. She just can’t sing. Did someone say “after office hours karaoke”???
What do you wear to work?
Dave likes to sport jeans and any sort of cat related t-shirt. Natasha is always timeless in black.
What do you do? Who for? And how does it benefit them?
We use our combined knowledge in quality management and software development to make web applications that help businesses do things better. We’re all about reducing waste and improving business processes.
